N2 - The report focuses on the recurrent problems in translation arising from approaching translation as transformation of a text from the source language into the target language rather than speech production in the target language. Therefore, translation often reads like “a foreign language”, and we say, instinctively, “it sounds wrong”. There may be no evident flaw in the structure of the sentence, word-order, idioms or figures of speech - yet a reader may feel uneasy. That is what is figuratively called the ‘third language' in translation. Additionally, the report briefly outlines the ways of how we can avoid the ‘third language' in translation.
