abstract = "In the paper, we examined the hesitation phenomena that appear in reading aloud and retelling texts in Japanese as L2 and Russian as L1. 10 native speakers of Russian with some Japanese language learning experience took part in the study. The results indicate that filled hesitation pauses were the most widespread phenomenon while reading and retelling texts in L2. While reading in L1, silent pauses were the most frequent among all disfluencies. We considered three main factors presumably influencing the number of unfilled and filled hesitation pauses: language (native or non-native), text type (dynamic or static), and the participant's level of Japanese language proficiency. The results support the previous studies of disfluency in L2 acquisition: hesitations are more common in L2 speech, and their number decreases with higher proficiency in L2. In most cases, we did not find any influence of the text type on the number of hesitations. According to our data, the number of some types of hesitations (e.g. sound lengthenings) depends on speaker's individual characteristics.",
