In this article the mediation is presented from the perspective of language teaching in the university curriculum. Based on the analysis of reasons justifying the demand for mediation skills in different real life situations, current research of the role of language competence in mediation and personal experience in language instruction at the university we intend to prove that mediation is to become an essential language activity for most students whose professional careers will be connected with interpersonal relations, resolving conflicts and negotiation. We discuss the resources and methodology which university education can use to provide training in mediation skills. This article also argues that at present mediation is a crucial, yet vastly underestimated skill in the English for Specific Purposes instruction and considers the ways to include mediation activities in the English language syllabus and possibly integrate them in other disciplines taught in English which deal with mediation. In the end some examples of language assignments with a mediation component are described.
