N2 - We consider a variational problem of finding the cost-optimal path on the surface of the terrain. The path minimizes an integral cost functional. Our main goal is to obtain an approximate solution as a piecewise linear function via ant colony algorithm. We adapt the algorithm for this purpose and propose various modifications. We also provide numerical examples and comparison of the introduced approaches.
