The paper analyzes specifics of the representation of the Russian Tzar Peter the Great in South Korean Press and online-resources basing on articles published since 2000. Lately the interest to him has been growing as the Korean translations of Western monographs on the Russian Tzar, and there are articles introducing Peter the Great and his activities in South Korean press. To analyze the chosen material, we focus on the following: 1. Where and in what respect the material is published; 2. How the figure of Peter the Great is represented; 3. The image of Peter the Great and the specifics of the events represented; 4. What purpose is set by the authors. Basing on the analysis, the paper aligns tendencies and conclusions related to the contemporary perception of Russia and relations between Russia and South Korea. In the analyzed articles, Peter the Great is depicted as a representative figure in the history of Russia, and an outstanding figure in the world history. His reforms are the model for tracing such activities, which should serve the model for contemporary politics (in accordance with the perception of Peter the Great formed in early 20th century) or which were erroneous (a new tendency in evaluation of the tzar's reforms). Some of the texts imply the possibility to make parallels between Peter the Great's activities and contemporary course of the Russian Federation. The authors tend to influence them through drawing comparisons with Korean history and culture, and with the help of the style used in the titles and contents. These and other specifics in relation to the formation of the image of Russia in general serve the base for the main conclusions of the paper.
