The language as a means for reflecting the reality embraces all changes in the world and coins new words for them. The pandemic and lockdown generated dozens of new words and expressions, new meanings and actualization of the old ones in English and Russian. The world faced the same challenge, but the languages reflected different aspects of an isolated life. The research analyses translation methods for 60 selected words and expressions that appeared in English during the pandemic into Russian. The research shows that many words and expressions can be translated by means of transcription/transliteration and/or calquing. More words and expressions need an in-depth analysis and can only be translated via a description. The findings could be useful for translators, linguists, all participants of cross-cultural communication.
