The article discusses German compound nouns with the Traum component and their use in one of the most famous works of the Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud - “Interpretation of Dreams”. The material was the original German-language text of the monograph. The purpose of the study is to analyze the vocabulary with this component, which is mainly of a terminological nature, and its features. On the example of the work of Z. Freud forming the terminology of a separate direction of scientific research can be observed. The tasks are to identify the most frequent characteristics of composites in this monograph, to determine the semantic groups of words with the Traum component and the possibilities of translating German composites into Russian. The relevance of the research is due to the fact that currently the terminology of many sciences is becoming more widely used - in popular scientific literature, in journals, on websites of relevant topics on the Internet. The vocabulary characteristic of psychology as a science is also available to non-specialists, and therefore the consideration of its features is of interest to linguists. The practical application of the research results is the possibility of their use in theoretical courses and seminars on word formation, terminology, lexicology of the German language.
