In this article discourse studies methodology is applied to the studies of programming contests and their effectiveness for the industry. The authors distinguish between discourse practice as a phenomenon and a discourse practice model. The model developed by the authors describes interdependencies at different levels of the phenomenon of discourse. The model is created by evaluating and integrating pieces of discourse study methodologies developed by Foucault, Habermas and Van-Dijk.
