In the article we look at the linguistic techniques of the burlesque redefinition of the epic motif of gab with the reference to the old French epic poem Le Pèlerinage de Charlemagne or Voyage de Charlemagne à Jérusalem et à Constantinople. The linguistic mechanism of burlesque creation in the Old French texts is stipulated by the lowering of the epic formulae ( ma spee furbie, les feres cumpanies, par covent, Rolland li curteis ) and epic notions ( recreantise, fel, olivant ) used in an unethical situation. Lexical-stylistic means of the burlesque creation are strengthened grammatically by the use of compound sentences with the meaning of degree-consequence and the intensifiers which they include and also by the use of such stylistic-syntactical techniques as enumeration and repetition.
