In a review of P.P. Serkov's book “The Legality (Morality of Modern Legal Regulation)” notes that this study belongs to the few works of Russian jurists, which are put and to some extent solved fundamental problems of law. Along with the overall positive assessment of the work, many of its provisions are critically assessed. Contrasting morality (as a criterion for assessing the legality of human behavior) to subjective interest, the author of the peerreviewed monograph is not far away from legal positivism, although he seeks to disassociate himself from it. Calling for a “face-to-face” approach, the author, like representatives of legal positivists, considers the person and his behavior as the object of evaluation (regulation) at least from the moral beginning.
