The article discusses the experience of solving the problem of incorporating a new urban space into the historical environment of the city using the design project of Sofiyskaya Embankment as an example, executed by Strelka Design Bureau together with the 8 Lines architectural agency (Moscow). The relevance of the project is due to the need to create a modern comfortable urban environment, which in recent years has been gaining momentum in many cities of Russia, and is being implemented thanks to the federal program “Formation of a comfortable urban environment” of the national project “Housing and Urban Environment”. The construction of the embankment will create absent, but actually existing territories, whose potential has not been revealed. The considered design project can be considered as the material embodiment of the tendency towards glocalization.
