Discourse markers form a class of auxiliary lexemes serving to ensure the coherence of the text as a whole rather than to convey grammatical meanings. The list of discourse markers for each language remains open and depends on the approach to their selection and classification. The problem of maintaining a reasonable balance when translating the discursive vocabulary of a literary text is of particular interest: while a literal translation can make the translated text sound unnatural, ignoring discourse markers leads to the loss of the author's style. This article attempts to analyze the strategies of dealing with the discursive markers adopted by the translators of M. M. Zoshchenko's stories from Russian into Hindi and Bengali in stories “In a tram”, “Dangerous connections” and “A trap”.
