The article refutes the widespread idea of the “fairy tale” by Ivan Kireevsky as an easily decipherable allegory, the meaning of which is reduced to the opposition of the world of high dreams and low reality. The ambiguity of a number of motives and plot situations of the work is noted, the importance of studying its creative history and probable pretexts is pointed out.
