The article discusses the postmodern concept comprised various components. Analysis of different art practices has made it possible for some of them to become independent and specific, which, in its turn, has led to the institutionalization of new art genres. At the same time, some components have not lost their initial connection with the former postmodern context and can only be explained and understood within postmodern framework. A genre of appropriation, which can be attributed to such new components, will be demonstrated with the example of Yasumasa Morimura’s works. Yasumasa Morimura is a modern Japanese photographer, whose works have been recently exhibited in Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow, 2017). The artists’ works are characterized by the tendency of linking past and present.
