In this article, the evolution of the concept of organic agriculture from the middle of the 20th century to the present day is considered. It includes three levels of development: Organic 1.0, Organic 2.0, Organic 3.0. Based on a study of the papers of foreign authors, a change in the range of tasks to be solved and the management tools used in this sector of the agro-industrial complex is shown. In addition to highlighting global development trends, the article summarizes the domestic experience of organic farms and describes the development of its market in Russia. The article lists the main tasks for the future development in Russia. In addition, the digital technologies that increase the efficiency of not only production processes but also the management processes of both individual agricultural
enterprises and supply chains as a whole are listed.
