This article focuses on the analysis of newspaper articles texts and their translations into Russian in order to identify the degree of divergences in the meaning of words in the translation. The paper analyzes newspaper texts and their translations on the basis of the following classification: lexical-semantic shifts, displacements and distortions. Shifts, displacements and distortions in the text may influence the final translation in the end: cause incorrect associations, form a false attitude to the subject of the article or mislead the reader.
