The paper analyses various English translational equivalents of Russian interrogative utterances in the comparative perspective. The analysis involves seven English translations of Leo Tolstoy novel “Anna Karenina”. The investigation of the problems dealing with the category of Interrogativity and Personality in English is based on the principles of Field approach to grammatical phenomena and functional methodology of research. The paper discusses seven pragmatic factors characterizing interrogative utterances.
