The paper covers the symbolic function of the myth-based name in the poetry of A.S. Pushkin that is interpreted here as magical-poetical realia in the author’s text. Functioning as intermediary, such names add some multi-level informational profundity to the text and appear an apparently intractable problem for the translator who fails to identify and, then, to reconstruct such a unit in the target language. The search is based on the poetic tales of Pushkin, in particular, on his Prologue to the romantic poem Ruslan and Liudmila where we find quite a number of such examples. Here we study but only two of the kind and analyze the resulting informational inequality in four English translation versions
