The purpose of the article is to study the influence of the philosophy of romantic hero and world on the works of A. Brookner. The object of the intertextual and comparative analyses are intertextual connections between B. Constant`s “Adolphe” and A. Brookner`s “Providence”, which are actualized through quotations, or on the level of characters, plot and problems tackled. Analysis of factual material has shown that allusions in the recipient text arise from the point of view of personal features of the main characters and psychological interpretation of their actions. Brookner uses traditional romantic motives and type of narration. Constant`s novel is not only the source of quotations and allusions, Brookner creates its modern version. The conclusion is made that the main heroine of the pretext is used by Brookner in the transformed form in accordance with the epoch in which she lives. The main differences between the analyzed texts are in the finale and ethical message.
