The case method was used in research work of professional activity of marine specialists. The method is proposed to be applied not only for the training of specialists, but also for the purpose of recruitment and evaluation of the results of their professional activities. The study aggregates results of 19 cases from professionals - navigators and engineers. Collected cases mainly reflect the most important objective criteria of the effectiveness of professional activity - safety of navigation and incidents-free operation. Cases can be used in interviewing and questioning candidates for vacant positions, as well as during team discussions and business games.
