The paper discusses controversial points and their explanations in the study of Russian biaspectives, considers this group of verbs in a communicative perspective and claims that the internal language approach dominates in this sphere. The approach is based on: 1) Yu.S. Maslov’s theory of the relationship between lexical semantics and aspect of the verb; 2) V.V. Vinogradov’s ideas about the role of semantics, aspect and temporal characteristics of verbs in creating certain types of text; 3) the concept of communicative speech registers and their variants by G.A. Zolotova and her co-authors. The paper analyzes the use of biaspectual verbs in the context of rivalry of aspects of the verb and reveals the isosemicity, on the one hand, of the intentional and content bases of stating and prescriptive texts and, on the other hand, of biaspectives, in whose lexical meanings the semantics of the process and its limit and/or the singularity and multiplicity of action are closely related. It shows that these types of text are characterized by the speaker’s position, when he or she perceives actions as a set of facts in abstraction from their aspectual and temporal concretization. This brings the verbbased naming of an action closer to the nounbased naming of an action in these types of text. The paper suggests typifying identifi ed contexts as informative-stating and stating-prescriptive variants of speech registers. The current active processes in biaspectual verbs make it possible to recognize the presence in the Russian language of verbs that denote action without specifying their aspectual characteristics.
