Approaches to genre-based instruction in second language learning are based on genre theories of the New Rhetoric, systemic functional linguistics and language for specific purposes. The key methodological issue within genre pedagogies concerns correlation between informing students on the communicative structure of genres and particular linguistic patterns of their realization. The genre-informed approach is critical in training translators who are expected to have genre competencies in source and target languages.
