The Palimpsests, undoubtedly having a semiotic nature, do not fit into the asynchronous systemic-structural
representation of semiotic means adopted in semiotics. The wide representation of palimpsests in biosemiotics and
anthroposemiotics does not make it possible to consider them as an exception, which allows us not to revise the foundations
of general semiotics. At the same time, it is found that in the palimpsests, the paradigmatic relations of some components
of different levels are transformed into their syntagmatic relations, and the semiotics of the palimpsests can qualify as
open source semiotics. This circumstance, associated with the weakening of paradigmatic oppositions and syntagmatic
connections, determines the status of palimpsests as an instrument of temporal changes in sign systems (cf. the antinomy
of synchrony — diachrony by F. de Saussure) and suggests an estimate of the contribution of palimpsests to these changes
