One of the systemic descriptors of translation as activity is cultural mediation. The creation of the target (secondary) text is influenced by a number of various factors, such as asymmetry of languages, client’s instructions, uncertainty of context, translator’s personal attitude, comparative social status of the source and target texts, etc. Significant is also the need of the target culture in the translation. Interculturally, one of the most difficult objects for translation is mythology. Translation of literature is more or less assimilated with different languages and cultures while the folklore realm often appears as a stumbling block for both the translator and target audience. The article considers certain complications in translating and perceiving mythoepic texts in a different cultural space.
