The Russian media market is dominated by state-affiliated media, while a weak and fragmented journalistic community operates within a deeply polarized society with low levels of trust to public institutions. This contributes to dysfunctionality of institutional media accountability in the country. Today, Russian media fluctuate between imitational social responsibility, debunking political opponents, and individual accountability of online content producers on social networks and YouTube.
