This chapter is devoted to proper names and ethnonyms in the old Belorussian proverbs in comparison with the current ones; Belorussian target proverbs in comparison with the proverbs of Russian and some other Slavonic languages; Belorussian proverbs as the proverbial parallels of the Russian proverbs of the paremiological minimum of G. L. Permyakov. The chapter contains a classification of proper names and ethnonyms inside the structure of old and current Belorussian proverbs and the results of the authors’ sociolinguistic paremiological experiment (February 2019). We also analyze proper names and their derivates in Belorussian proverbs from our “Handbooks of a paremiographer. Issue 5.” Results of this analysis show that in the past Belorussian proverbs with proper names and ethnonyms were recorded in a greater number than our sociolinguistic experiments revealed; the comparison of the list of Belorussian personal names (first names) from proverbs to the similar Russian list showed that there exists a list of Belorussian personal names (16 in number) without Russian parallels and a list of Belorussian-Russian proverbs with personal names, which do not correspond to each other—neither by components, nor by semantics. So, not all Russian proverbs with proper names are reflected in the active paremiological fund of Belorussians.
