It is known that heterologous protein production in microorganisms has negative influence upon a host cell. In this regard, of particular interest is to know the fate of recombinant proteins in a cell. In this study, it was shown that NLS of bovine gamma-interferon functions in yeast Pichia pastoris cells. The absence of the C-terminal NLS of bovine gamma-interferon leads to cytoplasmic localization of the recombinant protein.
