The article is dedicated to the memory of the well-known social, political and church figure, Archpriest Kassian Bohatyrets, one of the leaders of the Old-Rusin party in Austrian Bukovina. During the Second Political Trial of Vienna in 1916 he was sentenced to death for his conviction. In the last years of his life Father Kassian compiled a history of the Orthodox Church in Bukovina «The History of the Bukovinian Diocese from the Earliest Times to 1943». This history also included the history of the land. Describing the period of Austrian dominance Father Kassian also gives note to the socio-political situation and the persecution of the patriots of Holy Rus' by the Austrian authorities. He sheds light on the church-religious life in Bukovina during WWI, the oppression by the Austrian authorities of the Orthodox clergy for their sympathy towards Russia.
