The thermal deformations and phase transitions in two new polymorphs of RbB3O5 were studied by high-temperature x-ray diffraction. The crystal chemistry of these compounds was examined, and the structural origin of strongly anisotropic thermal deformations in the boron-oxygen framework of RbB3O5 was revealed.
