The article discusses how the largest Western and U.S. media outlets cover
the military component of Russia’s international image. Ethnolinguistic analysis has been carried out in order to identify media articles markers that form the media image of Russia; identify sources of negative and positive information about the military component of the country; study messages, images, and representations that are contained in media texts in a broad social context; and to understand why the articles tend to be negative. The main objects of study are as follows: foreign print media, the world’s biggest newspaper and magazine websites, and independent international websites covering military problems in which Russia is a major issue of interest. Comments and responses to publications from audiences have also been reviewed.
