The paper deals with the adaptation of the new descriptors of phonological competence (COE 2018) to different national contexts. The purpose of the research is aimed at finding an effective method of testing and teaching a phonographic language to logographic language learners. It is investigated within a wider set of questions: 1) will it be relevant to collect all phonological features, including perceptual ones, into one complex scale; 2) how can phonological control be reflected in the plurilingual descriptors; 3) whether national phonological systems of languages require different scales to assess; 4) what can be done to expand European descriptors towards oriental languages.
