We describe an Implicit Model Reference Adaptive Controller (IMRAC) design approach for nonlinear systems. It allows to overcome some of the structural obstacles, in particular matching conditions, and results in simplified adaptive controller design procedure. Moreover, the relative degree restriction can be alleviated by employing the so called shunt compensator.
