Many surgical procedures have been described to treat fixed deformities: lengthening, capsulotomy, epiphysiodesis, shortening, and arthrodesis. Gradual correction of the deformity has been reported previously using various external fixators. Several authors have used an Ilizarov circular fixator, a monolateral fixator, hinged distraction apparatus, or computer software-based fixators. Various techniques for correction of joint contractures are described in this chapter.
