Structures of six new ionic compounds featuring diprotonated 1,2-bis(pyridyl)ethane and 1,2-bis(pyridyl)ethylene cations and Br-, Br3-, Cl-, ICl2- counterions have been established for the first time by X-ray diffraction structural analysis. Quantum chemical computations were employed to study intermolecular interactions in the compounds.
