The article addresses the translation activities of Claude de Seyssel (1450-1520), a French humanist from Savoy and a bastard son of the Marshal of Savoy. In it an attempt is made to place his translations from Latin and Greek into the context of the development of humanism in France. The article suggests that his activity in this field built a bridge between the Italian humanists interested in translating from Greek and their French counterparts and laid the foundation for the French humanist translators of the second half of the 16th century.
