The necessity of mastering academic writing in ELT is the demand of present day Higher Education system. However, format and content of different academic genres vary depending on academic tradition. The terms of аннотация and abstract are submitted to comparison analysis in this paper, the structure and content of abstracts being analyzed on the material of 100 abstracts of Springer Publishing articles. The results show the discrepancy in the formats of аннотация and abstract in English and Russian academic tradition, thus proposing the relevance of adaptation to the structured format of abstract writing in Russian universities with the purpose of obtaining required writing skills.
