The given paper presents a new method to record a voice source signal. It allows registering the voice source by a special miniature microphone which is located in the proximity of the vocal folds. Thus there appears an opportunity to record the voice source signal and the output speech signal synchronously. Being an invasive technique, the method does not bring any significant discomfort for a subject. The position of the microphone does not interfere with the naturalness of the speech sounds produced. In the paper the procedure of recording is described and the results of the perceptual tests are presented. The perceptual tests were conducted in order to find out if the voice signals recorded can be identified as any of Russian vowels. The recognition patterns of them are given. The analysis and comparison of the synchronous voice source and speech signals can provide a better understanding of the human speech production system. Besides, it allows developing voice source models more accurate compared to the existing ones. This knowledge can be applied to many applications such as speech/speaker recognition, speech synthesis, emotion identification, age identification, speech coding and various medical applications.
