This article analyzes the manifestation of characteristic features of such a special type of medieval historiography as" origo gentis", or the origin of peoples, in the text of the" Getica " of the Gothic historian of the VI century Jordan. Special emphasis is placed on the methods by which he manages to reconstruct the history of the Goths, as well as demonstrate the mechanism for forming their identity and transforming the image of the Gothic rulers.
