The article presents an analysis of contradictory influence of Russian revolution and USSR on the ideologists of German ‘1968 movement’ who cooperated with the magazines of German ‘new left’, such as Neue Kritik, Konkret and Kursbuch. In the 1960’s Western left-wing intellectuals started to increasingly regard the Soviet Union as the betrayer of the Red October ideals which later appeared to be one of the key reasons why it lost the cold war.
