Условные предложения второго типа (Conditional 2) в английском языке интерпретируются в рамках нового, холистического подхода к языку как форме когнитивного поведения человека, направленной на приспособление к среде в момент речи. Методом исследования выступает когнитивный анализ. Эти предложения отражают противопоставление непосредственного опыта наблюдателя структуральному знанию говорящего.

Conditional 2 is analyzed within the new holistic approach to language as a form of cognitive behaviour aimed at the adaptation to the environment at the moment of speech. Speech context and perception of a person serve as the key elements in interpretation of language. The method of the research is the cognitive analysis of language. This type of sentences is showed to represent the juxtaposition of a direct experience of an observer to a structural knowledge of a speaker.
