The subject of the research is the policy of constructing European identity. The article examines the context of constructing the image of European identity. The author examines in detail the mechanisms that form European identity, provides research and authors who study this issue at the present stage. Some examples of making specific decisions are considered, which are interpreted as contradictions between states at the national level and the European Union. Conclusions are made about the future of European identity in the context of the impact of the crisis caused by the pandemic
