The paper deals with specifics of new female images in Korean vernacular poetry of the 18th-19th centuries, marked by the formation of prerequisites to the transition from pre-modern to modern literature in Korea. In the same period women become actively involved in reading and creating texts, along with widening of the poetical genres thematic scope. Basing on the analysis of original texts, the paper traces tendencies in female representations. Such trends as drawing an active, dynamic image in an everyday context, often using “lowered” style are commented in the context of literary tradition transformation.
