A comparative linguistic study of the German agricultural manual Oeconomus Prudens et legalis (1702) and its abridged translation into Russian (Florinova Ekonomiya, 1738) illustrates the interaction of German and Russian scientific discourses during the formation of science and education in Russia throughout the 18th century. Instances of German-Russian interference are found at the structural (compositional), lexical and syntactic levels of Florinova Ekonomiya. The Russian translator preserves the general system of chapters and sections of the source text, uses numerous language borrowings and constructs sentences according to the German language model.
