Word play, traditionally regarded as an action of manipulating the language by breaking its rules, requires accurate translation and, at the same time, creative approach to reproduce both the style of an author and the spirit of fun and amusement. The present paper aims to compare cases of word play in R. Dahl’s fairy-tale The BFG and their counterparts in a Russian translation of the book.
