The solution of problems on the plane stressed state of elastic objects can be realized by using the graphical interface of the PDE Toolbox of the Matlab package. However, in order to consider the possible changes in the configuration of the boundaries, it is necessary to use a program for calculating the stresses in the object, which will form an integral part of the general program for calculating object with a variable boundary. This paper is devoted to the investigation of the behavior of a plate in the vicinity of an elliptical hole, small in comparison with the dimensions of the entire plate. Analytically, such problems are reduced to the study of an infinite plane with an hole. In the program, only object with finite dimensions can be investigated, so the question arises of choosing the dimensions of the plate, which makes it possible to avoid the influence of the edge effect on the stress distribution near the contour of the hole, and also on the approximation of this contour.
