Within the framework of cognitive semantics, the article compares the cognitive domains MECHANICS and MEKHANIKA of the English and Russian scientific worldview. The study identifies appreciable differences in the content of the key concepts and in the propositional and image schemas represented by the definitions of the main mechanical concepts and laws.
