The article analyzes the degree of revolutionism of the opposition in the political crisis of 1780 and the limits of the counter-revolutionary potential of British political system. The author describes the essence of the opposition's political demands, economical reform, and the system of relations between the Rockingham Whigs as the most active part of the opposition and the masses. The conclusion is that the opposition was limited in its revolutionary nature, because the economical reform acts had limited results, and the parliamentary opposition did not provide a fullfledged electoral reform, isolating itself from the masses. In this regard, the British political system has demonstrated a certain counter-revolutionary potential and constitutional stability, not allowing itself to be reformed even in the face of serious failures in foreign policy.
