The article examines the peculiarities of studying during history lessons in secondary schools problems related to the Mongol invasion and the history of Russia in the 13th century. The authors suggest not only to focus attention on the key events of this period, but also to consider them in the context of general historical processes affecting the Russian lands of that era. This problem is correlated with the content of the "Historical and Cultural Standard" prepared by the Russian Historical Society.
