The article argues that the development of political interaction between the states of Central and Southeast Asia is the Stans’ natural reaction to the emergence of the "New Great Game" in their home region. It finds the similarities in the development of the peoples and states of the two regions. It claims that the Stans see Indonesia as a major power in Southeast Asia, while Jakarta has always regarded Tashkent as its priority partner in Central Asia. It also describes the evolution of Uzbekistan-Indonesia political interaction, which can be considered as the key element in the system of cooperation between the states of Central and Southeast Asia.
