The article is about a stylistic technique for the creation of characters in the text of the medieval novel of « Le Roman de la Rose ou de Guillaume de Dole » by Jean Renart. The technique is about the use of rhymes which contain homographs. As the texts were meant to be read by individuals, the graphic image of the words was very important and could serve as an additional stylistic device. The use of homographs in rhymes allows underlining an important point in the narration exposing a character from an unexpected side or stressing a feature of the character which is essential for the action development. Rhymes would be either in the description of the character or in her/his direct speech.
